Jesus Said That He Is Coming Again
"As The Lightning!"

"For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" (Matthew 24:27).

"For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day" (Luke 17:24).

What do we know about lightning?

  • Lightning strikes unexpectedly and without warning!
    • The Bibles teaches that Jesus's coming will be like this--without warning and when many least expect it!
      • "...in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh"
        (Matthew 24:44).
      • "But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is" (Mark 13:32-33).
      • "...the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night"
        (1 Thessalonians 5:2).
      • "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night"
        (2 Peter 3:10).
      • "...I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come..." (Revelation 3:3).
      • "Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth..."
        (Revelation 16:15).

  • Lightning strikes quickly--in a few ten-thousandths of a second!
    • The Bibles teaches that when Jesus returns, it will happen in a flash!
      • "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump"
        (1 Corinthians 15:52).
    • Four times Jesus warned that He will come quickly!
      • "Behold, I come quickly..." (Revelation 3:11).
      • "Behold, I come quickly..." (Revelation 22:7).
      • "And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me..." (Revelation 22:12).
      • "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly..." (Revelation 22:20).

  • Lightning is immediately followed by the loud sound of thunder.
    • So Christ's coming will be accompanied by loud sounds.
      • "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God"
        (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

  • Lightning is preceded by signs of a coming storm.
    • The Bibles foretells many signs that will precede Christ's coming.
      • "...what shall be the sign of thy coming...?" (Matthew 24:3).
      • "And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory." (Luke 21:25).

Jesus Is Coming Soon!

  • "…Stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh"
    (James 5:8).
  • "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13).

    • "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20).
